Abstract: The exchange of information for the review of the Best Available Techniques Reference document on surface treatment of metals and plastics (STM BREF) started in 2022. This presentation includes a short introduction on the general process, i.e. the Sevilla process, of establishing environmental norms for installations covered by the Industrial Emissions Directive (IED) in the European Union. After this short introduction to the process, insights will be given into the current status of the STM BREF and the next steps until the completion of the exchange of information.
