Abstract: The incorporation of functional nanoparticles into anodic aluminium oxide (AAO) layers offers significant technological potential for advanced surfaces. The characteristic porous morphology of these AAO layers can be tailored for the controlled incorporation of functional nanoparticles. This enables the introduction of specific surface properties such as photocatalytic activity or antiviral functionality. A key challenge is to maintain the functional integrity of the incorporated nanoparticles, especially during the subsequent sealing process, which is essential to improve the durability of anodic coatings. The presentation will highlight recent developments and outline future approaches for the functionalization of anodic aluminium oxide surfaces using nanoparticle integration.
