Abstract: The shortage of skilled labour represents a significant challenge also for the aluminium industry. This has driven to an acceleration toward process automation across various stages of the production flow in the factory, including the powder coating field. Leveraging the capabilities of artificial intelligence to manage the painting process of aluminum profiles allows the automation of vertical powder coating lines to be taken to the next level.

This evolution not only reduces the required man labour but also enhances repeatability in production and quality of the finishing. This paper presents an overview of the Vision System for profiles Recognition developed specifically for vertical lines with the aim to get an automatic reliable coating application, outlining how the system works and its key benefits to the surface treatment industry.
